Mother’s Superior

Grannies work hard for the local food industry. Babcia and babuni are words hauled out to give credibility to everything, from yeast to pierogi. Anything made by granny tastes the best. That’s the general, undisputed consensus in the nation and across generations. My son’s grandmother makes the best ever szarlotka (Polish apple pie).
There’s Dzień Babci (Grandmother’s Day) on January 21. I forgot (again) this year to give credit to Alex’s granny for things like apple bake. Elsewhere, it’s Mummy’s Day today. In Poland, that’s on May 26. So, I take today to put grannies, the mummy’s superiors, on the pedestal.
